Assembles systems partially or completely, working on a bench or on shop floor by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Positions parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or following blueprints.
Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, or other fasteners.
Removes small quantities of metal with hand files and scrapers to produce close fit between parts.
Operates drill presses and miscellaneous air hand tools to assist in assembly operation.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent assembly.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required with assistance.
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
Sets up with assistance and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
Inspects assemblies according to specifications on engineering drawings and accompanying documentation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and blueprints.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Have the ability to compute percentages and convert English to Metric.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
